Integrated PROPER:
Preventing Risk from Opioids & Suicide by Preparing Employees to Respond in Construction
Integrated PROSPER – Construction is a dual-prevention training designed to reduce opioid-related overdose and suicide among construction workers—two of the highest-risk issues in the industry. Developed through a University of Maryland, Baltimore CARES Science to Systems grant, the course equips participants with practical, lifesaving skills while contributing to a research study measuring gains in knowledge, attitudes, and confidence. The training includes evidence-based Naloxone instruction that teaches workers how to recognize an opioid overdose and administer intranasal naloxone using a clear five-step protocol. Participants also complete Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), a nationally recognized suicide-prevention gatekeeper program that empowers them to identify warning signs, ask directly about suicide, offer hope, and connect colleagues to professional help. Together, these components strengthen safety culture, reduce stigma, and foster a more prepared construction workforce capable of acting quickly and compassionately during critical moments

Naloxone Training

Naloxone training prepares participants to recognize and respond to opioid overdoses quickly and safely. The course explains how opioids affect the brain and breathing, how to identify overdose symptoms, and why rapid action is critical. Participants learn a clear five-step response: stimulate the person, call 911, administer intranasal naloxone, provide rescue breathing if needed, and offer ongoing care until help arrives. The training emphasizes safety, legal protections, and when to administer additional doses. By the end, participants are equipped with practical, lifesaving skills to reverse an opioid overdose and support recovery.
QPR for Suicide Prevention
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training equips participants to recognize suicide warning signs and take effective, compassionate action. The course teaches how to ask directly about suicidal thoughts, listen without judgment, and offer hope by persuading the person to seek help. Participants learn how to connect individuals to appropriate professional and community resources, strengthening a safety net within their workplace and community. Designed for all audiences, QPR empowers everyday people to act as gatekeepers—identifying risk early, reducing stigma, and helping prevent suicide through timely intervention and referral.
